Do you ever feel bad for throwing the yoke on a person? Making them pull a title like "best friend" around behind them? It feels to me like it's just a huge hassle... I see the purpose of a title like that, but assigning it is just so odd to me.

"Hey, y'know what, you're my best friend."

When I ear those words I'm suddenly burdened with taking care of this person. Mopping up their feelings becomes a priority, or otherwise I'm a jerk, right?

I can understand, if you and another person mutually agree, after trials and tribulations aplenty, that trading the titles of "best friend" with one another is a good idea. It can be very reassuring to know that somewhere out there you've got somebody real and tangible, who just might be thinking about you, worrying about you, or who's happy for you.

Having a best friend is nice. But is your best friend just being nice?
